The 1990 Vintage is exactly the same as the Aberlour 10 year old, smooth and rounded and easygoing for beginner and enthusiast alike, Very much having an ‘old school ‘ character like the days of old this whisky is made for easy drinking, one might think it was a blend rather than a single malt. Aromas of oak, sherry and vanilla, the palate is vanilla, pepper, and blackcurrants with a medium long finish of pepper, vanilla and oak. Easy and simple and very enjoyable.

Some rust to the tin lid but the bottle is immaculate. Much older bottle of Aberlour distilled at some point in the 1980s

Tasting Notes

Nose : Initially quite light and lean. Water is needed to bring out a hot bracken, toffee note with US wood: light hickory, honey and spice. Flat.

Palate : A burst of soft toffee, loads of honey and a dry cereal, peanut brittle edginess. A little musty.

Finish : Chewy, medium length, a little minty.

About Aberlour 

The Aberlour distillery was founded in 1879 by James Fleming, though distillation occurred at the site earlier. A devastating fire in 1898 destroyed much of the distillery and its whisky, but it was promptly rebuilt with modern equipment by Charles Doig. It was sold to S. Campbell & Sons Ltd in 1945 and later became part of the Pernod Ricard group in 1974, which helped establish its strong market presence in France
