A multi vintage release of Old Orkney from Decadent Drinks. Since reviving the historic brand from the Orkney Isles, Decadent Drinks have crafted a handful of excellent releases from an undisclosed Orcadian producer (of which there are only two). The third bottling combines a 2003 refill hogshead with a 1999 first fill ex-bodega sherry butt and is delicious sherried, coastal, gently peated.
Tasting Notes
Nose : Earthy, coastal and drying, like dunnage must and peat fire embers. Green walnuts, heather ales and camphor with waxes, fir wood and hessian cloth. Wonderful and deeply evocative.
Palate : Hugely leathery, salty, gamey and peppery sherry. Lots of game meats, tar, salted liquorice, putty, dried herbs and sooty peat smoke. Mouth-filling and immensely characterful.
Finish : Long, back on big salty, umami and drying notes of nori, soy sauce, peat smoke, camphor, green walnuts and miso.

Old Orkney can refer to the ancient Neolithic history of the Orkney Islands, known for its well-preserved stone monuments like Skara Brae and the Heart of Neolithic Orkney sites. Alternatively, it refers to an Orkney single malt whisky brand that was revived by the independent bottler Decadent Drinks in 2023, featuring single malts from Orkney's surviving distilleries.
