Ridgemont Reserve 8 Year Old 1792 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 75cl

1792 Ridgemont Reserve comes to us from the Barton 1792 distillery. When they first released this bourbon a few years ago it carried an 8-year-old age statement on it, but the later releases lost that numerical statement like oh so many others and joins the ranks of no-age-statement bourbons (NAS). Which I don’t have anything against so long as it’s a product that matches the price.

Tasing Notes

Nose : crisp and dry, maple syrup on fresh pancakes, dusty oak, caramel, butterscotch candies, some dried grassy rye spice

Palate : a crisp dry shell of candied tropical fruits around a smooth core of butterscotch and caramel, some bright wood tannins, and a nice tingly pepperiness

Finish :  the candied tropical fruits, floral rye spices, butterscotch, and now also some melted butter with a dusting of baking spices

About Ridgemont

In case you’re wondering, the 1792 in the 1792 Ridgemont Reserve is in reference to the year that Kentucky became a state. This might be one of the reasons why the 1792 Ridgemont Reserve was the “official toasting bourbon” of the Kentucky Bourbon Festival for so long. Before diving into the review I should mention that the Ridgemont Reserve is no longer around and has been replaced by the 1792 Small Batch – consider this a look at recent history.

1792 Small Batch Bourbon is a well-crafted and highly regarded bourbon whiskey produced by Barton 1792 Distillery, based in Bardstown, Kentucky. It is named after the year Kentucky became a state and pays homage to the rich bourbon-making traditions of the region. This small batch bourbon is made from a blend of carefully selected corn, rye, and malted barley grains, which are meticulously distilled and aged in new, charred oak barrels. The aging process takes place in the rickhouses of Barton 1792 Distillery, where the barrels are exposed to the natural elements of the Kentucky climate, allowing the bourbon to develop its distinct flavour profile.
