Talisker 1986 Distillers Edition TD-S:5AM Inaugural Release Jerez Amoroso Cask Finish Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky (1999) 70cl

The double matured version of similar in concept to the Lagavulin Distillers Editions.

An addition to the much loved Classic Malts series, the Distillers edition expressions finished using a variety of different cask finishes. This expression was the first example of double Cask maturation by the Skye distillery.

A Distiller's Edition of Talisker distilled in 1986 and released in 1997, a year before the distillery went through a small renovation with a new mash tun and 5 wormtubs.

This bottle was double matured in Amoroso Sherry Wood and has been described as lightly smoky and salty.

Historically, Talisker stood as the only distillery on Scotland`s iconic Isle of Skye, maintaining its reputation for exceptional quality. Rarely changing ownership, it became part of DCL [now Diageo] in 1916. The Distillers Edition series, offering cask-finished variations on the Classic Malts, includes the earliest release from the Isle of Skye. This double-matured expression was finished in Jerez Amoroso cask wood, with distillation taking place in 1986 and bottling completed in 1999.

About Talisker

Talisker is the oldest working distillery on the isle of Skye and one of Scotland's most famous coastal / island malts. Founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, the distillery was acquired by the Dailuaine-Talisker Distillers Co. in 1898, who expanded the distillery before selling up to Scottish whisky giant DCL in 1916. The distillery was destroyed by fire in 1960, but was thankfully meticulously rebuilt based on the original plans with replica stills being manufactured to ensure the unique character of the spirit was preserved. The distillery used to have on-site maltings, but these were decommissioned in the early 1970s.

Ageing is American oak casks is preferred, although limited edition barrel finishes are available, and the barley is peated to medium level - around 20 parts per million. Talisker is a distinctive malt - smoky, bold and flavourful. Talisker 10 Year Old is considered by many to be one of the classic modern single malts, while Port Ruighe is aged in ex-Port casks, adding notes of ripe red fruit. Independent bottlings are quite rare when it comes to Talisker, but a great opportunity to taste single cask expressions.
