Angel's Envy Single Barrel SB-231392 Finished in Port Wine Barrels Max Beverage Store Pick US Exclusive KSB (2024) 75cl

Private Barreling of Angel's Envy not to be confused with the 43.4% or other versions that are released. This is the richer, denser & more powerful pure stuff that they produce at Louisville distilling co!

At Angel’s Envy, they take care to artfully blend their product – blending twice, both before our secondary finishing and after – to ensure an exacting taste profile at each point.

Celebrating the uniqueness that each barrel brings, Angel’s Envy Private Selection Single Barrel is the ultimate expression of their bourbon. With limited availability, these top-shelf collector items offer a unique opportunity to experience their distinct, high-proof whiskey from a single finishing cask.

Using hand-selected barrels that have been imported from the Douro region of Portugal, every barrel holds its own nuanced flavour profile. Angel's Envy blend Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey between 4-6 years prior to finishing in a single Ruby Port barrel for another 3-6 months. The result is a palate of cherry, brown sugar, and dark chocolate notes with olfactory notes of vanilla and stone fruit.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Wood dust, dark plums, fresh cut red fruits, and antique wood furniture. The nose opens up to more decadent dessert notes of berry compote, toasted caramel sugar, and a touch of cinnamon and clove. Excellent nose but that comes off a bit softer than you expect with the high proof.

Palate: Drier on the palate than the nose. The front palate begins dry with candy sweetness only appearing as it moves towards the middle of the tongue and the finish. The port influence is almost non-existent and seems covered up by the heat of the proof. With stronger tannic notes than I expected, butterscotch and corn dust flavors compete for attention. Mouthfeel is on the thinner side, with the big oak notes leaving the overall experience quite dry.

Finish: The port cask influence finally shows through on the long finish. The fruity note found on the nose finally makes an appearance and blends in with more dried oak, baking spices, hazelnut and nutmeg.
