Ardbeg BizarreBQ (2023) 70cl

It all started with an ultimate idea: three unique barrels, two masters of their craft and a lot of heat and smoke... what is created? The distillery's first-ever whiskey inspired solely by barbecue - Ardbeg BizarreBQ .

Our esteemed Master Distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden, together with grill hero Christian Stevenson (aka DJ BBQ), concocted this delicious single malt with spicy, peaty notes.

Like barbecue, a key element in distilling creates flavour – fire. That's why Ardbeg BizarreBQ consists of double-charred oak barrels, Pedro Ximénez sherry barrels and the specially invented BBQ barrels, which were extra-highly charred on a traditional fire basket. This barrel combination ensures a deliciously sweet, spicy and smoky taste that goes perfectly with any barbecue.

Tasting Notes

Nose : Peaty with aromas of charcoal, soot, nutty smoked hams, braised meats. Then fresh with herbaceous and citrus notes. And finally delicious with touches of caramel and cinnamon.

Palate : Meaty and spicy flavors from notes of grilled meat, cooking, chili-lacquered ribs as well as aromas of cloves, ginger and anise.

Finish : A long, smoky finish with touches of grilled artichokes and black olives.

About Ardbeg

Ardbeg distillery has been producing whisky since 1798. The distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, and produces a heavily peated Islay whisky. The distillery uses malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen.

The Ardbeg distillery was officially founded in 1815 by John McDougall. But Whisky was distilled there long before that. There are no documentations, as Ardbeg was an illegal business back in 1794. The distillery is now owned by LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy), which also owns Glenmorangie distillery in the Highlands of Scotland. The current capacity is just over one million litres per annum and its water source is Loch Uigeadail, after which one of its famous releases is named.
