There is a nicer climate than in Scotland so whisky ages faster and gains more influence from the cask. In this case a sherry cask marriage to create what has earned the brand Gold in the New York Wine & Spirits Competition in 2022.
Matured in ex-Sherry fortified wine casks from Jerez, Spain, El Sol is a well-rounded, rich, smooth, and complex whisky that celebrates the bright summer sun of Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia. The oak casks, previously used for maturing a variety of Sherries such as Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez, Amontillado, Palo Cortado, Fino, and Moscatel, impart a luscious and full-textured profile to this single malt. El Sol boasts an enticing aroma of flavours of dried fruits, crème brûlée, coffee, cacao, and dark chocolate, culminating in a lingering finish that captivates the senses.
TASTING NOTES
Colour: Golden amber.
Nose: A bold statement with lifted sweet orange peel and blossom, complemented by smoky oak that jumps out of the glass. Sweet almonds, dried fruit, and berries with hints of vanilla, plums, and spice.
Palate: Nice balance of oak and fruit sweetness. Struck match, spiced chocolate, cola, honeycomb, vanilla, stone fruit, smoky and gamey character, with great viscosity and persistence of flavour.
Finish: Long, deep line with great balance and a cleansing softness. Sweet coffee and plum linger on the finish.
Cask: Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez, Amontillado, Palo Cortado, Fino, and Moscatel.
