Indri 8 Year Old Single Cask #1449 (2023) 70cl

1 of only 72 bottles! EXTREMELY RARE!

A rare single cask bottling of a well loved whisky that is slowly gaining cult status amongst those outside of India.

Whisky in India is made in warmer climates meaning that the angels take more and as more water then evaporates also, the ABV actually goes up after a while and not down continuously though the overall literage does decrease hence why this cask has produced only 72 bottles

Search for single casks of this online and you will struggle to find any due to hardly any of them making them out of the country or being finished off by others connected to the Indri company / franchise.

Bottled in May 2023. Distilled in April 2015

TASTING NOTES

  • Nose
Clearly pronounced spice and wood aromas, lots of sandalwood smeared with a drop of pine oil, toasted oak, turmeric, ground galangal root, cinnamon stick, ground coriander seeds, a bit of cumin, behind it there is a good amount of roasted malt, over time vanilla appears with a hint of coconut, Tropical fruit notes of passion fruit as well as papaya and mango can be sensed, as can a scent reminiscent of plum wine, but these fruity notes have little opportunity to develop against the wooden spice rack in the foreground
  • Taste
The initial fruitiness of mango and passion fruit is overrun by a huge wooden front with lots of spices in its luggage, sandalwood goes hand in hand with toasty oak wood, quite dry and a little astringent, the cinnamon stick is licked extensively and a coriander seed is also bitten, slightly earthy curcuma and galangal come onto the scene, a citrusy-tart note towards bitter orange always flashes up, despite the high alcohol content there are no spirity tendencies, instead the mouthfeel seems a bit thin, it takes quite a long time to reach the gentler spices such as tonka bean and vanilla are chewed, and at the end cocoa and roasted malt also appear
  • Finish
Medium-long, a little dry and with an initially alcoholic boost, the spices, consisting primarily of turmeric and coriander seeds, scurry down the throat, followed by a bit of cinnamon and tonka beans and then there is room for a fine coconut-vanilla note, to which the memories come a little late The fruit flavours are joined by grenadilla, mango, candied papaya, peach, mandarin
