Kavalan Solist Bourbon Cask Single Cask (2017) 70cl

Single cask single malt from the King Car Distillery, released as part of the Kavalan Solist series. This particular expression spent its life maturing in an ex-bourbon cask, before being bottled at cask strength. Spectacular whisky all the way from Taiwan!

This particular expression matured in casks that previously held bourbon before being bottled at cask strength. The vanilla-y elements from the bourbon casks work very well with the fruity spirit from King Car, resulting in a well-balanced expression.

Solist is German for 'Soloist', which in this case refers to the fact that this expression is from Kavalan's single cask range (they really, really like musical metaphors). Given this whisky is of course Taiwanese, I can't really tell you why this range has an apparently German name but I can tell you that their ex-Bourbon cask releases won a Gold Medal at both the ISC 2010 and the IWSC 2011. Impressive.
