The Third Crop of Lochlea’s Fallow Edition was matured in sherry casks, resulting in notes of dark chocolate, red berries, and banana bread, along with dried fruits, soft leather, malt biscuits, and delicate rose petals.
Originally a South Ayrshire cattle farm Lochlea pivoted to barley growing with the aim of estabilishing a distillery and finally began producing spirit in 2018. An independent and family owned distillery Lochlea benefits from the expertise of ex-Laphroaig distillery manager John Campbell, who oversees the production of this elegant and fruity spirit. Lochlea is steeped in history, the barley is grown in the same fields once worked by illustrious former tenant Robert Burns, and their inaugural release hit the market on the 25th of January in his honour. Driven by a field to cask philosophy and unburdened by an inflexible corporate structure Lochlea has positioned itself as a progressive and responsive distillery with the potential to create some innovative small-batch whiskies.
Initially led by the experience of Malcolm Rennie and John Campbell, Lochlea is now under the management of Distillery Manager Darren McCormick. Darren has been with Lochlea since the very beginning, filling the first ever Lochlea cask in 2018. 6 years on, he continues to ensure our spirit is of the highest quality by overseeing every aspect of production.
