An intriguing limited-edition blended malt from North Star Spirits, dubbed Supersonic Mach 4. Drawn from a pair of sherry butts and bottled at 60% ABV, this is a particularly rich and bold expression. Just 716 bottles were produced.
This is a vatting of 2 sherry butts of single malt to create a big lovely sherry driven dram. A limited edition of 716 bottles.
North Star have been slowly gaining a heavy cult following for their immense focus on quality and intense flavour.
These guys seem to have a knack of knocking out something special with their blended malts. Vatted and 8 years old isn’t always the best vehicle to carry 60% abv, but try telling that to North Star. It’s very apparent that this is small batch batting coming from only two Sherry butts. Sherry driven, Sherry nose, Sherry plate, Sherry finish. It’s as bold as they come at this age and easily competes with it stable mate Vega.
Tasting Notes
Nose : Leather, Madeira plums, pear, sugared raisins, tobacco, sour cherries and chocolate with slivers of almonds, blueberries and lovage.
Palate : Sweet sherry start. Then comes the alcohol and brings cooling freshness without burning. Pleasant notes of tobacco, leather, cherries and some wild berries. Plus a little smoke. Sweetened raisins and milk chocolate.
Finish : Medium length and very comfortable.
About North Star Spirits
Astronomy plays a massive part in the storytelling narrative of our core whisky range. Our vision is reflected in our company name. The North Star is the anchor of the northern sky. It is a landmark, or sky marker, that helps those who follow it determine direction as it glows brightly to guide and lead toward a purposeful destination. It also has a symbolic meaning, for the North Star depicts a beacon of inspiration and hope to many. North Star focuses its energies on the curiosities, peculiar oddities, and obscurities - whisky as it comes, straight from the cask and into a bottle - without any fancy tricks.
