Smogen 10 Year Old 2014 Decadent Drams Single Cask Swedish Single Malt Whisky (2024) 70cl
The first of two new bottlings of Smögen for our Decadent Drams series.
This is a 10 year old, 2014 Smögen that matured for just over 8 years in a 1st fill Maderia hogshead, before we got our mitts on it and re-racked it into a knackered old refill hogshead, to round it off gently and emphasise that delicious Smögen-ness.
It's big, peaty and classically Smögen, but with an enigmatic Maderia twist... We bottled this with a couple of degrees reduction at 57.1%.
Tasting Notes
Nose : Earthy peat with soot and tar, but also a good amount of cured meats, some smoked paprika powder. There’s a thin veneer of jammy fruits, such as apricots, followed by mead, a tinge of teak wood and some distant minerals.
Palate : A proper oily mouthfeel with a good pinch of white pepper, some sandalwood, bung cloth and smoked barley husks. Also hints of mirabelles and apricots, as well as a honey sweetness that lingers. Also oak ashes
Finish : Long. Hints of soot and smoke. Just a touch of oak, but also a sliver of papaya.
