Suntory The Essence of Suntory Chita 20 Year Old 2000 Sakura Cask Finish Blend Japanese Single Grain Whisky (2020) 50cl
This is a 2020 addition to The Essence of Suntory Whisky series. A blend of 2000 vintage "clean type" Chita single grain, it has been finished in Sakura wood casks for its final three years. The previous fifteen were in white oak.
The Chita grain distillery was opened in 1972, and was Suntory’s second distillery. Previously its malt and grain had been produced at Yamazaki, but Chita was tasked with sole responsibility for the latter during the company’s expansions that decade, which saw its second malt distillery, Hakushu, opened the following year. Although it is primarily tasked with the provision of Suntory blends, The Chita single grain brand was launched in 2015.
Chita grain whiskey is a clean type Chita grain whiskey distilled in 2000, matured in white oak barrels for more than 15 years, and then matured in cherry barrels for more than 3 years. This single grain whiskey from the Chita Distillery is a blend of Chita grain whiskey that has been matured for 12 years, 21 years, or more, taking advantage of its flavour characteristics reminiscent of cherry blossom cake. The word “Shin” on the label represents Suntory’s strong will to take on new challenges.
