Kiwami (meaning 'supreme') is a blended Japanese whisky from Chugoku Jozo who mature their whiskies in a 361 metre long tunnel rather than a warehouse, which is fun.
It’s not every day you get to sample a whisky that matured in a 361-metre long tunnel – but that’s exactly what you get with Togouchi Kiwami. The blended Japanese whisky certainly makes an impression; it’s elegant, expressive and subtly spicy.
On the nose it reveals hints of nuts and fresh herbs while on the palate it's all things naughty and nice: chocolate and hazelnut enhanced with honey and a crack of black pepper.
Tasting Notes
Nose : Voluptuous — Vanilla, walnut
Palate : Sweet and smooth — Honey, melon
Finish : Light — Slightly smoky vanilla
About Togouchi
Togouchi is a brand of whisky from Sakurao Distillery in Hiroshima, Japan, which matured in an abandoned railway tunnel that creates a unique microclimate for aging. While the original Togouchi whisky was a blend of imported Scotch malt and Canadian grain whiskies that were blended and naturalized in Japan, recent production from Sakurao's own distillery in Hiroshima has also produced 100% Japanese-origin single malt and grain whiskies, all matured in the unique tunnel environment.
