Grandson of Robert the Bruce and son of Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward of Scotland, King Robert II was the first monarch of the House of Stuart, ruling the ancient Kingdom of Scotland from 1371 to 1384. Robert II’s legacy can still be seen and touched today at Stirling Castle in the foundations of the gates of the fortress, recaptured from the English following the legendary victories of Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn.
