About Bowmore

Founded in 1799, Bowmore is Islay’s oldest licenced distillery, and home to one of the world’s oldest Scotch maturation warehouses, the No.1 Vaults. Bowmore operated well throughout the years, however, their great reputation only came about when Wm & Jas. Mutter acquired the distillery in 1837. This led to Windsor Castle requesting a cask of Bowmore in 1841. In the early 60s, Stanley P. Morrison acquired the distillery, this era saw the start of a great period in Bowmore’s history, the mid-60s bottlings are seen as being legendary. Now with Suntory having full control since 1994, Bowmore is still thriving to this day.
