Cadenhead's Enigma 25 Year Old 1998 Blended Scotch Whisky (2023) 70cl
Cadenhead's show proof that Blended Whisky in THEIR format is delicious as hell and plays more like a Blended Malt than a Blended Whisky. They have casks upon casks and bottle, blend and create all day long. It is their craft and open to the public to experience in Campbeltown too. Owned by the same company as Springbank, Longrow, Hazelburn and Kilkerran, one can visit there and take part in several experiences including blending lessons, warehouse direct from cask tastings or others.
From Scotland's oldest independent bottler, Cadenhead's, comes this bottling of blended Scotch whisky under their new Enigma range. It has been produced by blending malt and grain whiskies from undisclosed regions that have all matured for a minimum of 25 years in Refill Sherry casks. Bottled at a natural strength of 41.4%, without chill-filtration or the additional of colouring. This bottling is one of two bottles that make up the first release of the Enigma series. The whiskies that Cadenhead's will be bottling in this series will be unusual, hard to quantify, and perhaps even slightly contradictory.
About Blended Whisky (for some not the norm)
Blended whisky is an artful marriage of different types of whiskies, typically combining grain whiskies with malt whiskies from various distilleries. This blending process aims to achieve a balance, creating a whisky with a harmonious flavour profile where the strengths of each component are highlighted, while any potential weaknesses are cleverly masked. Blended whiskies offer a consistent taste across batches, making them a favourite for both new whisky drinkers and connoisseurs alike. They can vary widely in style, often providing a smoother, more approachable character than single malts, and are perfect for enjoying neat, on the rocks, or as the foundation for a cocktail. Each blend is a unique recipe, often kept secret by master blenders, showcasing their expertise in creating a spirit that's greater than the sum of its parts.
