Chichibu Ichiro's Malt Double Distilleries Chichibu & Komagatake (2021) 70cl
Chichibu distillery was founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto, and has been operational from 2008, it was the first new Japanese distillery since 1973. Ichiro Akuto is the grandson of the founder of the lost distillery at Hanyu.
Chichibu is located near the site of the former Hanyu distillery.
Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, American white oak and ex-sherry casks, it holds aromas of caramel, old books, mango, pineapple and orange that fill the nose, complemented by notes of banana, pineapple, mango, sea salt and vanilla throughout the palate.
Ichiro's Malt Double Distilleries 2021 is a collaboration between Chichibu and the Mars Shinshu distilllery, who recommenced distilling operations in 2011 and contributed some of their Komagatake single malt to this release. This iteration of Ichiro's Malt Double Distilleries 2021 is subtitled 'Chichibu x Komagatake'.
The casks for this limited edition were aged at Chichibu and bottled in 2021 at a poky 53.5% without colouring or chill filtration. A delightful dram from two of Japan's newest and most exciting distilleries.
