Douglas Laing XOP Caol Ila 38 Year Old 1980 Single Cask DL12785 (2018) 70cl
1 of 177 bottles from the out turn.
This 38 year old Islay single malt was laid to rest at the Caol Ila distillery in September 1980 and bottled for Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular range in September 2018.
Drawn from refill hogshead number 12785 at a natural cask strength 53.9% ABV, this limited edition malt is one of just 177 bottles that comes with fine wooden presentation case, glass stopper decanter and COA.
Tasting Notes:
The nose is all Islay smoke with heavy oak overtone. The sweetness of the peat along with the oak produces a beautiful balance opening the way to cured meats, sea salt & chocolate orange on the palate. The finish is like old sea water decayed burnt oak and salted chocolate on the finish. A beautiful experience that requires some time to savour.
Nose: Sweet smoked barley alongside streaky bacon, golden syrup, caramel and salty seaweed.
Palate: Spicy Seville marmalade developing into peat smoke, oat biscuits, buttery pancakes and charred oak.
Finish: Clouds of smoke linger with dark peat and damp earth plus sorbet lemon and plum jam.
