Vega is a blended malt Scotch whisky from the North Star Spirits chaps, made with whiskies aged for at least 23 years in both Spanish and American oak casks. It was named after the star in the Lyra constellation, not after the claw-wielding Street Fighter character. 400 bottles were produced.
The drink has earned itself somewhat of a legendary status with those who look back and remember what a fantastic blended malt this was. It still is today.
North Star Spirits was founded in Glasgow in 2016 by Iain Croucher. They have since developed a strong reputation for bottling fantastic single cask and small batch whiskies, as well as the much-lauded Vega and Spica blends.
Tasting Notes
Nose Bourbon-y caramel at first, with light peat smoke and poached pear following soon afterwards.
Palate Robustly malty, with plenty of vanilla and treacle. A subtle touch of mineral-y smoke.
Finish Chilli chocolate and brandied cherries.
