American Rye Single Cask Bottling
These American Rye casks are from Woodford Reserve Distillery, Kentucky, where they use 53% rye in their mash bill. The flavours emulate history’s original rye whiskeys, with strong peppery, spicy flavours in a sea of fruit and butterscotch. These casks develop interesting pepper, spice and butter flavours in our single malt scotch whisky.
The most common types of casks used to mature Scotch Whisky are ex-Bourbon barrels made from the most prevalent species of North American white oak, Quercus alba.

This single cask release was distilled 29th March 2019 using un-peated spirit then laid to rest in American Rye cask #19/307 for 5 years, 2 months and 25 days! Bottled in 2024 at 61.2% vol, Na Sia translates to 'The Six' in Gaelic.
Tasting Notes
As well as the classic vanilla flavour that you get from this type of oak, we are looking for a spicier black pepper note and more of a butterscotch flavour in our ex-rye cask matured spirit. The barrels come from Woodford Reserve distillery in this instance.
About Raasay
Co-founders Bill Dobbie and Alasdair Day first met in 2013 and formed R&B Distillers with the common goal of building Scotland’s leading artisanal distiller. Focusing on local production, provenance, quality and doing things differently.
By 2015, they had identified the Isle of Raasay as providing the ingredients for the perfect dram, and planning permission to begin work revitalising the Isle of Raasay’s nineteenth century Borodale House into a state-of-the-art distillery, visitor centre, and luxury accommodation was granted in 2016.
Starting with a blank sheet of paper, they set about designing a distillery to create exceptional whisky that develops elegance, complexity, and depth early on in the maturation process and a handcrafted Hebridean gin that encapsulates Raasay’s style, character and impressive geological variety.
