Smokehead Sherry Cask Blast is a peaty Islay single malt that has well and truly earned its name. Blasted by rich, sweet and spicy Spanish sherry casks, it has emerged as fiery, explosive, heavy hitting dram that has even turned our skull red.
It might well be the exact, highly unusual taste you’ve been waiting for. It might be a cannonball careering towards you that you’re keen to avoid. Either way, we’ve taken our ‘brilliant rebellious’ mantra to a whole new level.
Sherry Cask Blast by name, sherry cask blast by nature. This peaty Islay single malt from Smokehead was finished in sherry casks and that rich, sweet, and spicy impact has elevated the spirit into an explosive, fiery liquid that turned the poor skull on the label ruby red. Must be powerful stuff. We haven't seen a skull that red since we watched yer man in that Captain America film. What was his name again?

the first impression
Thick peat lets you know you’ve got a serious Islay single malt on your hands. Then a fruitier, creamier feel – soft rich oak, soothing custard and vanilla. But don’t get comfortable – this is only the beginning.

the full on flavour
Tie yourself down and wait for the hit of oily black smoke, with a rich, heavy mouthcoating peaty feel. Then along comes a sweet sticky flavour of barbecued banana (yes, really), tangy sultanas and dried fruits. Told you it was different.
Sherry oak note
the finale
The peat returns, just as you hoped/feared it would. This time it’s brought some authentic Spanish sherry oakiness with it, pleasingly and disturbingly sweet. And one last sharp salty reminder that you’re not dealing with the ordinary here.
Tasting Notes (Simplified)
Nose Heaps of medicinal peat are joined by dried herbs, vanilla, plums, and lapsang souchong.
Palate Charred mango, dried fruit, stewed apples, and peppermint are joined by nutmeg, BBQ embers, and roasted nuts.
Finish Smoky and sweet.
